1,000,000th job placement for DEEWR Job Services Australia contract
Job Seeker commenced with Bridging the Gap in Feb 2011, as Early School Leaver. He was referred directly to Green Jobs Program at City of Melville and started his Certificate II in CALM in March 2011. He then completed his Certificate II in CALM and commenced Job Club where intensive job search began. During this time a meeting was held with Bridging the Gap/Job Futures staff and City of Melville to establish possible Traineeship opportunity for him. He was successful in gaining interview and as he had demonstrated a good work ethic during his on the job performance he was highly recommended by City of Melville staff. He was delighted when he was selected over all other applicants for the job, full time traineeship commenced on 1st November and he is very happy in his new career.
Post Placement Support has begun he is going well, attendance is perfect, and work performance is excellent.

NGULLA GRANT
LOTTERYWEST BOOST FOR NGULLA COMMUNITY GARDEN (June 2011)
The Hon Phil Edman MLC has congratulated community organisation, Bridging the Gap, after it was awarded a Lotterywest grant to purchase equipment for the Ngulla Community Garden in Casuarina.
Mr Edman presented the $56,680 cheque to Bridging the Gap’s CEO Colin Kerr, to purchase concrete pathways, a sea container, a tractor and a trailer.
Mr Edman said the financial support from Lotterywest would further assist the non-for-profit organisation guide and support Rockingham and Kwinana youth through training and employment.
“Bridging the Gap has already helped many individuals rebuild their lives through training and employment opportunities,” Mr Edman said.
“The Ngulla Community Garden is one project that provides personal and vocational skills to people, especially local youths,” he said.
“It is a pleasure to support this wonderful initiative, and I look forward to seeing volunteers and students at the community garden benefit from the Lotterywest funding,” Mr Edman said.
Mr Kerr thanked Lotterywest for its support and financial contribution.
“I’m thrilled that the funding will further assist students, trainers and volunteers continue their hard and dedicated work at the Ngulla Community Garden,” Mr Kerr said.
GREEN JOBS NEWS – ARTICLE:
Recent newsarticle appearing in the Community Newspaper “Taking the Blues out being green” reported:  KERMIT the frog had it right wehn he said that its not easy being green. But in the City of Cockburn, being green just got a bit easier for the community and local young people after the launch of the National Green Jobs profect at the Cockburn Wetlands Centre on May 26.
National Green Jobs will offer employment opportunities to grogram participants aged between 17 and 24 who are currently receiving income support. The free six-month Federal Government work experience and training program will enable participants to gain a Certificate II in Conservation and Land Management. Their tasks will involve planting native vegetation for habitiat restoration, protecting coastal in-frastructure by revegetating dunes, installing erosion-control measures and working on week control.
