What is RPL?
The formal recognition of skills and knowledge that an individual already possesses. What the candidate currently knows and can do is assessed to determine where they are already competent in certain skill areas.

 The RPL process
The RPL process involves regular interaction between the RPL candidate and the RPL adviser or RPL assessor. The RPL process typically follows the following steps:
- Explaining the Assessment process
- Identifying your business needs
- Identify the employee’s learning requirements. Candidate identifies a need to hold a qualification and selects the most suitable one depending on current skills levels.
- Prepare an assessment and learning plan. Candidate collects evidence to show competence and meets with RPL assessor periodically.
- Implement the plan
- Review the Plan
Assessment involves employees demonstrating their skills and knowledge through:
- completing work tasks
- answering questions about their work
- providing examples of work they have completed.
- A qualified assessor decides whether the employee meets the standards
- Assessor issues candidate with a statement of credits and the certificate follows once the process has been verified by the certification body.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is available on request for each of the certificates and units of competency Bridging the Gap offers. RPL assesses current competencies of candidate that have achieved skills in their study, work and life experience. Â
